John Smith and Nikky Morgan-Smith will present a floor talk about their current group exhibition ‘Different Settings’.  

 

The four family members in this exhibition have lived in close proximity on a property in Eureka NSW for decades. The landscape/setting of that site has played an important part in the development of their art practices in various and varying ways.

 

It could be said that the ‘different settings’ in each of the practices shown here have become adjusted through a form of unintended yet underlying collaboration.

 

Whilst the circumstances of their habitability may be understood simply as ‘family’ the story of their ‘days’ is myriad and unaccountable, leading perhaps to the idea of Different Settings. This may be a responsible way to describe their artistic interdependencies as a subset of Collaboration in art practice.
