Tim Roberts  |  Secrets of the Rainforest

4 - 29 January 2017

These works have their origin in Tim’s daily work as a professional bush regenerator. They are illustrations of the foliage, flowers and fruits of our local rainforest plants.
The originals are drawn “live”, on clear acetate cell, with a nib pen dipped in ink, then coloured with acrylic paint. Tim calls them “botanical cartoons”, because the materials and techniques are like those used in animation studios, where he once worked.

While the drawings have a high level of “botanical correctness”, there is also an element of fantasy in the distortion of scale, the playful colours, and things falling through the pictures. They reveal and celebrate the often hidden beauty that surrounds us.

Launch Event: Thursday 5 January  |  5.30pm - 7:30pm
