Tanja Taljaard | Falling into Place
26 April - 21 May 2017
Winner of the innaugral Byron School of Art Student Prize, Tanja Taljaard, presents an exhibition of works reflecting upon distilled every day moments and altered memories.
Falling Into Place is about the power our senses have to instantly transport us to another place, or stir a vague memory of something known. The introspective figures in these paintings embody movement through time and space, as they sit and quietly contemplate the past and present. Time and place are inextricably woven together through memory. As we travel back in time through memory, our experience of both the past and the present alters. Our place, then, is not just a location, it is also an experience. Every day moments, recollections, and fragments from books, dreams, conversations, music and the natural world provide inspiration for this work.
Tanja was born and raised in South Africa, and has been living in the Byron Bay hinterland with her husband and daughter since 2010. Tanja has drawn and painted from a young age. She is currently doing the Byron School of Art’s Third Year course, having completed the school’s Second Year course in 2016. In 2015, Tanja completed the Certificate III in Visual Arts with the Byron Community College.
