Creative Youth Mentorship

Light Graffiti with Duke Albada

Wednesday 4 December  |  3pm - 6pm
Thursday 5 December  |  7pm - 10pm
Where: Ignite Studios @ NRCG, 60 Crane Street, Ballina

Are you aged 15 to 25 years with an interest in photography?

Northern Rivers Community Gallery is offering local creative youth a mentorship opportunity working with artist Duke Albada to learn the dynamic creative expression of Light Graffiti during December.

In this free, two day program participants will use a large variety of light sources to create light graffiti from long-exposure photo techniques. The program will take place in a darkened room in Ignite Studios or on location at night in the Ballina CBD. The outcome is a dynamic photo with brightly drawn imagery or written text which can be abstract or illustrative.

An exclusive opportunity for a small group of young adults, aged 15-24, who will be mentored by artist facilitator Duke Albada in building their knowledge and learning new skills. The exploration includes communicating ideas and learning from each other by watching actions and effects. Participants collaborate in photographing their stories and bringing their message to light.

No artistic skills of photography experience necessary, all you need is an interest to experiment and explore. One afternoon session at Ignite Studios and one evening session on location in Ballina. All lights and camera supplied. Participants are asked to wear dark clothing. The outcomes will be exhibited at Lennox Head Cultural and Community Centre foyer in a public exhibition.

This special intensive workshop will run over two sessions on Wednesday 4 December from 3pm to 6pm and Thursday 5 December from 7pm – 10pm.
