Shelly Anfield |  Poetic Silence

7 February - 4 March 2018

Shelly Anfield graduated from the National Art School in 2015. She went on to be chosen as 1 of 12 finalists in the Clyde & Co Sydney emerging artist award and has shown work in numerous exhibitions in Sydney since then. In 2017 she was a finalist in the prestigious Mosman Art Prize. Shelly has returned to the Byron Shire and is now working from her studio there. Her work is held in private collections across Australia, USA and England.

‘The silent language of painting expresses, with great impact, the poetic inner landscape of contemplation and deep questioning that I don’t easily find words for. It allows me to not only express, but also understand, a deeper aspect of myself and the world.’

Shelly feels a deep connection to nature and is fascinated by the dichotomy of fragility and strength that exists within all life. Shelly uses the landscape and vast skies as a metaphor for the complexities of human life. Using a limited palette andlayers of finely blended oil paint to achieve an atmospheric glow, she moves between realism and abstraction searching for a way to express the immaterial through material means.

Launch Event: Thursday 8 February 5.30pm - 7.30pm
