This project is an investigation into the clutter of text that constitutes my ‘self’.
Although text became the chosen tool with which I playfully reviewed my identity, I soon realised that attempting to solidify something as fluid as self, ran counter logic to the project. Washes of colour, overlapping and blanking out became integral to the work, creating movement and a sense of flux replicating my uncertainty and hesitation in defining who I am.
The paradox of this investigation is the realisation that identity has no static conclusion. There is joy in knowing that my surroundings are constantly shaping me. There is excitement in knowing that my opinions are capricious.
My thoughts, feelings and experiences exist beneath and between layers of colour, the significance of which is not lost on me.
Behind the white borders and off the edges of the canvases the work continues, as I do, to evolve.
