AiR at Ignite Studios  |  28 November 2018 - 29 January  2019

As a multi-disciplinary artist, Carolyn collects discarded and unnoticed objects found on beaches and streets around her studio; they are the rejected mass-produced objects of everyday life. Reclaiming these everyday objects Carolyn re-assembles this refuse into sculptural forms, drawing connections between the objects themselves and the natural environment from which they have been extracted. This results in evocative installations aimed to create awareness in the affect and effect of plastic consumerism and the waste it creates on the threatened environment. Passionate about the alarming rate at which our environment is changing, Carolyn creates new forms out of the abandoned, large scale and poetic site-specific installations, evocative ephemeral wonderlands that prompt visitors to consider the lasting impacts of waste on the natural environment.

Carolyn's focus for her residency at Ignite Studios @ NRCG will explore the cross over of science as fact and art practice as representation.

Paris, France born, experimental artist Carolyn Cardinet lives and works in Australia. She received an MFA in 2012 from RMIT, Melbourne, studied Honours at Monash in 2005 and was a recipient of a BFA in 2004 from the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne University.

Carolyn studied painting but found the need to break away from the 2D of the canvas plane. This lead her practice to assemblages, video, sculpture and site-specific installations that explores the sensorial quality of the discards in nature.
