Ignite Studios Artist Residency  |  Testimonial

The residency gave me rare, uninterrupted time to reconnect fully with my painting practice. The studio is beautiful — quiet, filled with natural light, and perfectly located next to the gallery and close to shops. Being away from everyday distractions allowed me to work deeply and consistently, and I made significant progress on a large painting that had been difficult to complete at home. Ella and Imbi were welcoming, respectful of privacy, and very supportive. The experience was grounding, restorative, and creatively energising. A truly valuable opportunity for focused art making.

I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for the incredible opportunity I had to participate in the artist residency at Ignite Studios. The support and guidance offered by the Gallery team throughout the residency were invaluable, and I am truly grateful for the experience.

As I reflect on the past two weeks, I am filled with a sense of renewal and inspiration. Immersing myself fully in my art practice allowed me to reconnect with my creativity in ways I hadn't imagined possible. After facing the challenges of the Lismore 2022 flood and losing my studio, art materials, and work, this residency provided me with a much-needed space to rebuild and rediscover my passion for painting.

The encouragement and belief in my artistic journey were instrumental in making this experience so meaningful. I appreciated the opportunity to focus solely on my craft, without distractions or hesitation. It was truly liberating to give myself permission to embrace my career and dreams wholeheartedly.

I cannot thank NRCG enough for creating an environment where artists like myself can thrive and grow. Their dedication to supporting the arts is evident in every aspect of the residency program, and I feel privileged to have been a part of it.

I wholeheartedly endorse the artist residency experience at Northern Rivers Community Gallery to fellow artists. It's an opportunity to step outside of one's comfort zone, explore new creative avenues, and ultimately, grow both personally and professionally.
